Admiral David Beattie referred to her as his 'Splendid Cat' . The ship was in the thick of the action both at the Battle of Dogger Bank and at Jutland where she sustained heavy damage at the hands of Admiral Scheer's battlecruiser squadron.However she gave as good as she got and at the end of the day many of the German squadron were little more than floating wrecks.

Sister ship to the Lion .Though strictly speaking a half sister. She fought at the Battle of the Heligoland Bight and was part of the 1st Battlecruiser Squadron which tried unsucessfully to intercept the German fleet after their attack on the English north east coast. She was lost at Jutland with nearly all her crew when she blew up after being hit twice by the SMS Derflinger.
